Should i just go natural?

im kind of sick of relaxing my hair all the time, it never grows that much, and its just too hard to keep up. Iv seen alot of cute natural hair styles for african american hair besides the afro, but what im really concerned about is that in order to get all the relaxer out you have to cut off most of your hair, my hairs really short already, but im in middle school, and you know how hectic middle school can be, i mean the students insult you for anything 'wrong' with you they can find, should i just wait till im in a higher grade, or should i just go along with it? D:

Should i just go natural?

What's wrong with leaving your hair natural? Lots of girls leave their hair natural at my school, and it looks fine on them

Yes, relaxing your hair is time consuming, expensive, and really bad for your hair. Avoid doing it as much as possible.

I think the afro does look really cute. Or, if you have strong facial features, you can get a pixie cut.

Should i just go natural?

whatever! just kidding, dont listen to what other people say. Do what yo kind is right. I dont think you use use any chemicals to let ur hair grow. Just let it go natural/

Should i just go natural?

trust me it doesent get any better in high school just more people, in my opinion going natural would be better, if u look at fashion magazines you see a lot of beautifull african american women with no hair, its not only trend its also staiting your pesonality.

Should i just go natural?

leave the relaxed part alone. after many washs sometimes it goes back to your natural curl. its better if u ask your mom or aunt. if u cant try a hairdresser u know of in your area. there are some products u can use to achieve the natural look u want. also look in the braids hair magazine as well. they have natural styles besides braids and can tell u what to do to achieve it.

Should i just go natural?

If you're concerned about the length, you could wait until you have a bit more new growth and wear micro braids with extensions. They last for a few months, and many girls have used them to help grow their hair out while still maintaining a cute, long look.

Should i just go natural?

I think you should go natural however some people who have curly hair want straight hair and if that is you can I recommend to you ISO International Ceramic Straighter. I work fantastically and lasts for days and it leaves your hair shiny. My mother loves it and she has very curly hair. I highly recommend it to you over relaxer which often does not work as well you would like and damages your hair.

Two tone look?

Can some tell me how to get the two-tone look on african american hair. My hair is black and I want a light brown/gold color on the ends. If you can go to this african pride web site, you'll see exactly what I want:

http://www.african-pride.com/flash/style...

It's in the style gallery, 3rd page at the bottom. Do I use foil? Do I dye all of the the back of the head or just the ends? HELP!!

Two tone look?

if you decide to do it yourself, you can bleach the ends and tone it to the color you want after bleaching. make sure you go to the beauty supply store to get the right bleaching product for your type of hair. you won't get the desired color unless you bleach it because tint cannot lift tint. look at it as an open canvas and you need to go to a blank canvas then turn the color to what you want.

Two tone look?

I have found that home treatments don't work well. When I had highlights, I went to a salon. Also, I had a friend who swore by salons that catered to Caucasian women because she thought they did a better job at highlights. They do it more often. Either way, I would recommend going to a salon.

How long does permanent hair dye last?

I died my hair red about three years ago. I've then since gotten many haircuts. My hair is naturally reddish, but my sister insists that it is because of the hair dye, and she insists African-Americans cannot have reddish hair. Is it possible for the hair dye to have stayed and not faded for three years? I know the answer, but I want to prove it to my sister. Thank you!

How long does permanent hair dye last?

HAHAHHAAAHAHA!!!! NOPE! "Permanant" hair dye, even with the best shampoos that are specifically for color treated hair, will NOT keep the color for three years. It will always fade, usually due to environmental factors such as sun, dry elements, etc., not to mention that your roots would have grown out by now! Sorry sister....the girl is a redhead!

How long does permanent hair dye last?

it should last for a couple of years probably

How long does permanent hair dye last?

Permanent hair dye is permanent. It stays in until the hair grows out and is cut off.

How long does permanent hair dye last?

Just like a relaxer, it grows out and you would require retouches. Reds usually fade if anything. If it's an even color there you have it, it's yours

How long does permanent hair dye last?

Hair grows at the rate of half an inch a month, therefore in three years the colour will have grown out by 18 inches from the roots.

Hope this helps.

How long does permanent hair dye last?

I all depend on the kind you get I would say I have gray and it don't stay on me over 2 weeks so If you go the right place and get the right one it will last at least. for a while. the one you buy from the store they real don't last that long ever when they say permanent not like 2 months the most is 3 week good after that you can see where it's coming back. Yes you can have reddish hair lady in my Church does and her girls. dye don't stay that long on. My sister have black hair and she dye it black after about 2 months maybe not that long it gone she have to do it again so she stop and not her hair is gray all over she dye it and it goes back to gray you don't have to cut it off relaxer you do but color it grows off you hair has your hair grow. I took beautician in high school. it want stay no 3 year with out going back to your natural color. not that long

How long does permanent hair dye last?

I know an African American friend of mine has naturally black hair with a beautiful natural hue of red in it. Now for me hair dye usually fades out of my hair within a year or two

How long does permanent hair dye last?

I would believe that it is possible for your hair to not fade and stay the same color for 3 years, but I think if you are using a shampoo for colored hair it is even more likely. The only thing is that your hair would have had to grow out some and over three years you would think that your hair dye would be long gone since you have cut your hair, unless you have died it since.

How do i get my hair really straight like this!!??

http://www.music-artists.org/rock/pictur...

http://www.music-artists.org/rock/pictur...

how do i get this thick full look? my hair is so flexible and when mositure gets to its it wavys up i want it to stay full, thick, straight all day, i want it to be a little stiff like when an african american straightens there hair its a little stiffer but flexible at the same time. okay so what kind of products can i use??? k thanks

How do i get my hair really straight like this!!??

None of your pics came thru, but you can use a root lifting spray to give you fullness. I use a clothing iron on my hair to get it stick straight. I have very long hair though, shorter hair you would want to use a straightening iron. I suggest using some mousse in your hair to give you stiffness. Don't use a lot because you will just get crispy flakey hair.

I never had any luck with straightening serums,

How do i get my hair really straight like this!!??

i did not see one example of strait hair in the first link. and the second link did not work for me it told me page not found.

How do i get my hair really straight like this!!??

My best bet would be for you to go to a black hair salon, let them do your hair %26amp; usually they will tell you what to use, what to buy, how cheap you can get it, etc etc...if you live in So Cal like I do, going to LA would be best. =]

I'm also guessing you might have thin hair or what not, but they can also tell you about products that can make your hair grow more(naturallyyyyyyyyy) or make it more fuller. Ask around other than the net lol.

Hot Oil Treatment...help!!!?

I bought a pack of TCB Hot Oil Treatment and followed the instructions to a T...and ended up with a mess of lard in my hair.

Here's what i did:

I shampooed and rinsed my haire. Towel blotted. Put in a tube of the hot oil and massaged into hair. Then i took a warm damp towel and wrapped around my head for 5 minutes. The instructions said rinse with warm water (and thats the last step!). I rinsed. I had greasy white stuff on my hands and wondered what the heck i did to my hair. I've never done this stuff so excuse my hair ignorance. I rinsed and rinsed but it was so damn greasy and the stuff was all under my fingernails! I ended up washing it out and it was still oily later. Even now its a little oily. My hair is shinier, yes, but so wieghed down. What did i do wrong?

P.S. I have african american hair that's relaxed.

Hot Oil Treatment...help!!!?

I have never heard of a "Hot Oil Treatment" doing this. They have been around for many years. The only thing I can think would be something to do with your hair having been relaxed and maybe the chemicals didn't mix and gelled the oil.Try using cooler water when shampooing and rinsing your hair while trying to get the oil out. It will eventually come out. I wouldn't suggest using this again. If you still have the packet, write or call the number on the back and tell them what happened. It is important for them to have this type of feedback to make their products safer to use.

Good Luck.

Hot Oil Treatment...help!!!?

I think maybe you used too much oil - or maybe the product works against your hair, not with it. You really aren't supposed to put the oil on your roots either - did you do that? All of these things could have combined to give you a hair mess. Chuck it, IMO. You should run out and get the Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo - it works great to relieve product buildup.

I think the V05 Hot Oil Treatment is really good too - I use it a lot!!! Good luck!

What is this controversy?

i'm black and i really don't mean to sound racist but what is the controversey over nappy usually african american hair and wet curly hair usually hispanic hair. me personally i have neither. but why do so many blacks want that look. in my school people usually compliment the kids with good hair and envy them. i'm one of them but frankly i like girls with thick hair because they have or they look like they have a full head of hair.

What is this controversy?

its interesting..might have to do with just racism within a race. if u dont look a certain way, you're not the same type. i dont agree, but its probably what most people think.

What is this controversy?

i dont know why ppl are so stupid either

i mean i have thick hair and i think its pretty awesome but i think watever hair you got doesnt really matter its what you can do with it

How can i get my Hair to grow, It is breaking and thinning.?

My hair is on my lower neck ,upper shoulder, Im an African American and my hair is permed.

How can i get my Hair to grow, It is breaking and thinning.?

Well, first off you need to consult a Beauty Stylist. I suggest a hot-oil treatment. It's deep-conditioning. It'll basically make her hair breathe a sigh of relief. I reccomend The Motions hairline that's remotely for and targets African Americans like myself. It's really good. Here are some products That'll be really good for you:

NO STRAiGHTENiNG iR0N 0R CURLiNG iR0N etc.

i reccomend putting your hair in different styles of cornrows for a little while or leaving it in a wrap

How can i get my Hair to grow, It is breaking and thinning.?

Sorry to hear that, hon. It sounds like its over-processed. When that happens the only thing to do is cut it off and let it regrow. Since most of us don't want to do anything that drastic--you can try a good trim and then wear braids or extensions to hide or cover up the thinning areas till the new growth comes in. Then take down the braids and trim off the remains of the over-processed hair. When getting a relaxer its important to note that your hair should never be super straight when it comes out at the sink. Rather it should be wavy and still somewhat full. The straightening should be done at the chair with a flat iron. This makes it easier to do retouches on the new growth and maintain the overall strength and elasticity of the hair. Otherwise it becomes over-processed and the chemicals literally kill the hair shaft--causing it to become brittle and break off.

Check out the web for some great braiding styles that will still give you length and style while your hair is growing in. Good luck.

How can i get my Hair to grow, It is breaking and thinning.?

your hair is growing, your just not retaining length. wear protective styles that keep your hair from rubbing against things, such as your clothes %26amp; scarfs.

How can i get my Hair to grow, It is breaking and thinning.?

hair is protein, a diet that is too low in protein may cause some thinning in hair or a retardation in the growth cycle. If you eat a protein-rich diet it will often result in improved hair growth. To Know more about your hair http://tipsfromruby-hairgrow.blogspot.co... will help you.

How can i get my hair to grow significantly longer without a weave?????

I am a african american and my hair is already long but i want it longer!!!!!!!!! I have a great texture of hair because of my mixed ancestors!!! please help!! no stupid answers!!! thanx alot!!!

How can i get my hair to grow significantly longer without a weave?????

Hair grows on average about 1/2 an inch a month. There are no remedies or products to make hair grow faster. The only thing you can do is promote healthy hair. And that is by eating foods rich in omega fatty acids, B vitamins, folic acid and protein. To keep your hair looking the best while it grows you should get a trim about every 6 to 8 weeks. Avoid overprocessing with colors, relaxers. Limit blowdrying, using flatirons or hotrollers. That should help your hair look great while growing out.

How can i get my hair to grow significantly longer without a weave?????

try to wear your own hair in french braids for a while and always keep your scalp moisturized, but the key is to find someone that can braid it with out pulling it so tight that you hair will come out around the edges

How can i get my hair to grow significantly longer without a weave?????

My sister n law has long hair too. Have youve heard of Doo Gro, its made specificially for blacks and you can get it at Sallys,Cvs, and i think Rite Aid. You should try it, besides helping your hair grow it conditions it without you having to put a lot of gunk on your hair and more. They have many Doo Gro products, (I think i spelled it right but it should be called Do Gro), they have grease, hair creme, you should use the oil, it works great.

How can i get my hair to grow significantly longer without a weave?????

Technically your hair does not grow longer than what you have. You can maintain healthy hair by having your ends clipped regularly and keeping good mainteance, i.e, regular washes, touch ups, eating healthy foods, etc. By doing this you can maintain healthy hair, but it does not necessarily mean that it will grow longer. I have yet to see an African American hair hair grow longer than it is already unless you are a young kid.

How can i get my hair to grow significantly longer without a weave?????

Use Horse and Mane shampoo and conditioner promotes hair growth and keeps your hair shiny and smooth I have long hair and its wat i use.

How can i get my hair to grow significantly longer without a weave?????

I work at a place called African Braids and we have this new stuff called Doo Groo and it makes your hair grow fast even on badly damaged hair Good Luck!

How can i get my hair to grow significantly longer without a weave?????

you have a few things you can do, first understand that hair is protien, called keratin. so if you increase your protien intake it will help. second, over the counter prenatal vitamins will help,(think about how mucha womans hair grows when she is pregnant). and last but not least if you can find a pure Lavendar oil and either mix it with a mild shampoo or conditioner and apply like normal. or use the oil as directed for topical use and massage your scalp. this will stimulate your hair follicles and make your hair grow.

How can i get my hair to grow significantly longer without a weave?????

through my experience doo grow workd the best. they have all different types of doo grow. there is one that expecially promotes the back and sides of your hair, its in a white and blue jar. you can buy it from sallys, rite aid, or wal mart. it usally goes for about 6.95. there is also a shampoo and conditioner called mane n tail. thats supposed to make your hair grow fuller and thicker.its cheap too, like around 5 dollers each .i know this tip will work for you if you keep you hair clean and well greased.

How can i get my hair to become more manageable and soft?

i am african american and my hair breaks quite a bit. i would like to grow it longer but i don't know how to. it is relaxed and i straighten it only after i wash it and my hair is completly dry.

help!

How can i get my hair to become more manageable and soft?

Currently i have long hair and have been learning alot so...

i do not have a relaxer i stopped getting them 5 years ago ( and i've only have 3 relaxers in my life time so this is all natural) so i can show you how to take care of hair with or without a relaxer.

1. The shampoo, unfortunately many black women are using shampoos with alcohol and petroleum jelly. step away from them. Use Aveda's shampoo.. specifically the name is Brilliant...go to the website. I use it, i love it, it mouisterizes my hair and the products are natural. i have also heard that KeraCare is good.

2. Okay, step two condition it and then it is time to comb it out, Do not use a brush on you hair when it is wet,,it will hate you for it then break off in revenge. Put your your sections use a big tooth comb, to untangle it

3. Do a hot oil treatment atleast once a month with extra virgin olive oil...repeat..EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil..not the regular stuff. unfortunately i have yet to take this step however my hair is doing great.

4. Okay on the daily basis you need to pay close attention to your hair...i recommend conditioning your scalp(3-4 times a week) and your ends(everyday) so that they will not get dry and unhealthy Petroleum jellly and mineral oil are weapons of mass destruction ( in other words do not use grease) it does so much harm to your hair it cannot be all explained here. So you ask what do I use...well natural oils

jojoba oi, extra virgin olive oil, sesame oil, emu oil, coconut oil...all these natural oils and more love you..i promise.

I also use Aveda's Brilliant ( the name of the brand) emollient for my ends.

5. Next,,if you want your hair straight but still be natural it is time to get a freakin good flat iron.,i have the Chi..it does the job but I recommend getting the Sedu because of the good reviews. make sure to protect your hair..i have so thermal protector from Aveda.

6. If you have a relaxer ( i have heard that Mizani and Affirm are the best relaxers) don't continue to relaxer all your hair everytime you go to the salon..just the new growth and try to stretch relaxers as long as possible.

7. You do not need to trim your hair everytime you go to the salon maybe every 3 to 6 months.

8. Wrap your hair in a satin or silk scarf to prevent damage before you go to bed.

9. Eat healthy, drink lots of water,

10 take multivitamins, and fish oil pills you can get from GNC.

Follow these steps and life will be good..the best part about flat iron (which i do once a week or every two weeks not everday since it will kill your hair) is that it is not stringy but thick and healthy, yet straight and light enough to blow in the wind.

How can i get my hair to become more manageable and soft?

use the protein/oil that they sell at sallys beauty supply

How can i get my hair to become more manageable and soft?

dont do straightening.. thats wat makes it dry.. leave ur hair as it is.. after washing ur hair use conditioners like mrs. marino.. that'll fix it..

How can i get my hair to become more manageable and soft?

Pantene moisturizer, shampoo and conditioner.

shampoo your hair once, then condition it twice.

the 2nd time, [conditioner] leave it in your hair for about 2 mins, with you hair tied up, then rinse throughly.

How can i get my hair to become more manageable and soft?

Use a daily shampoo and conditioner to soften your hair. Also, apply a little leave in moisturiser with oil to your hair. It will be more manageable and softer too. Try it. :)

How can i get my hair to become more manageable and soft?

my hair use to break all the time till i switched shampoos...try ausy shampo that they show on conersals and the 3 min mirical conditioner...make sure to condition your hair, that is what rejuvanates your hair and makes it soft. if all else fails go to a beauty salon and ask them. but im telling you that stuff works!!!

How can i get my hair to become more manageable and soft?

Well your hair needs two things: Moisture and Protein. Because our hair tends to lose moisture a lot we need to constantly be moisturizing it (daily). I moisturize my hair everyday and my hair has become much softer and I don't have a lot of breakage anymore. You also need to have a hair regime. I wash my hair once a week with shampoo and condition and then apply my protein which is Infusion 23 leave in conditioner.

I recently found this web forum where black women talk about their hair and how they keep it healthy. Check it out. You will learn so much about your hair and what it needs. http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/

How can i get my hair to become more manageable and soft?

egg white is a good option..apply egg white on ur hari and leave it for 5 mins and then shampoo it..its will soften ur hair.

What is permanent straightening?

I just have a few questions about this process of straightening hair.

1.How well does it work for african american hair?

2. What do you do when you get new growth?

3. How long does it last?

4. Where do you go to get it done? How do you find a place in your town who does it?

5. Are you able to curl your hair and style it different from the regular straight?

6. Will it get back straight after you wash it if you have naturally coarse thick hair?

7. What is the range in price for coarse thick hair?

8. what are the chemicals used in ths process? are any of them bad enough to strip your hair of it's natural nutrients like a perm or relaxer or coloring? (because that's what I am trying to avoid)

What is permanent straightening?

Permanent straightening IS a relaxer.

1. It works very well on African American hair. There are a few degrees of strength and your stylist will decide which one is best for your hair.

2. The new growth will not grow in straight, you will have to have it touched up.

3. Your hair will remain straight. The relaxer won't fade out.

4. The best way to find a salon that does it is to open the phone book and call around. If there is a JCPenney salon near you, I would suggest going there.

5. Yes, you can style your hair anyway you like.

6. It will remain straight after you wash it.

7. You can expect $50-150 depending on where you go.

8. I believe ammonium thioglycolate is the chemical used. No chemical is good for your hair but assuming that your hair is in good condition now you should be fine. However, you probably won't be able to bleach your hair afterwards. Color should be fine though.

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

Here's why i need to know i've got 5 questions to ask.

1. Does it work for (African American) hair?

2. If it does work for (african American) hair does it work?

3. Do all the shampoo and conditioner's smell good?

4. Do you use It?

and last of all

5. What does coarse mean.

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

I use it and it works on African American hair I believe

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

I just have to say this from a white girls hair point, smells great, yes have used it but does not work on my hair, gets very tuggy. Even my five year can't use it, but the smell is addictive and even tho, I know it doesn't work, I will still buy it once in a while. Course means thin hair.

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

I don't think #2 makes sense.

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

It doesn't do much for my hair. It smells great but it makes my hair really oily.

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

coarse means rough, dry, etc.

P.S. i call my husband LORD KIDINGTON! He's a hunk of kitty fur! Buuuuuahhhhhhahahahahahahahaha!

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

1. No, it makes your hair dry. Smells nice, but its dry

2. See the previous answer

3. They do, but again, not right for African American hair

4. No, I use Pantene for women of color-relaxed or natural

5. Coarse means that when you do get a relaxer, a regular strength one won't "take" as well as super.

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

Herbal essence shampoo has alot of harsh chemicals in it. I would invest in some salon shampoos that have more natural ingredients

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

Well, i can't answer the first couple, although i know that a few of my friends use it and they have african american hair..and their hair looks gorgeous if i do say so myself =).

I personally don't use it, but that's only because my hair and scalp are really sensitive and i find it irritates it. (but that's just me and my hair issues :D).

But yes, i have used them before in the past and they do all smell oh so nice (although obviously it's down to your opinion.)

And coarse in reference to hair would mean like rough/ heavy hair, e.g frizzy, split ends etc.

Regualr terms, it just means rough =)

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

I'm white but I presume it's pretty much the same... i have straight hair, my friend has curly hair and it works on both.

I love it, it makes my hair smell delicious, a couple of the lavender and chamomile ones smell a bit weird but most of them smell delicious.

I use it everyday, both the shampoo and conditioner and have used all different smells to the same effect

Coarse means rough to the touch.

Hope this helps!

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

1. it works for my whitegirl hair. lol.

2.same as above

3. yes!

4. yes. i love it.

5. the texture of hair. (for instance african americans have coarser hair than most white girls)

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

no i dont like it it over drys my hair.. They all smell good because all of the their lines contain fragrances.. the reason why they have the fragrance is to attract the attention of the consumer.. not really because the product is good... Coarse means for hair that is rough and thick... I suggest you use a different shampoo and conditioner.. I have coarse and frizzy and curly curly curly curly hair... maybe you should try out Redken's all soft shampoo and conditioner or biolage (by matrix) shampoo and conditioner.. or something that is moisturizing and smoothing.. even if you dont want to spend that kind of money... you can use pantene pro-v or l'oreal vive pro; look for the shampoos that are smoothing and the conditioners that are moisturizing (yes you can mix different ones) they will work well in your hair also.. Good luck

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

1. Doesn't work on my (mixed) hair type

2. It dries out hair, leaves it frizzier

3. Smell excellent - but that's not a reason to dry out your hair, is it? I think they've got a line of bodywashes, I'd suggest that instead.

4. I tried using it, it made my hair frizzy, I got ridiculously terrible split ends, running fingers through my hair meant breakage and felt like a wirebrush (only a slight exaggeration), I couldn't manage.

5. Coarse... is what your hair will be, using herbal essence! (haha) - No, seriously. Coarse means rough hair, that doesn't take well to treatments, needs extra time, to get the same effects... I call mine "stubborn". :)

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

I think they are great. I use them all the time because they smell soooooo nice. I am not sure whether it will work for your hair because i dont have african american hair. You can buy it for dry hair or for all hair types so it will be fine.

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

1. yes fuh sho. A-A hair is just like anyother hair just needs more moisture!

2. uhh yeahh for sho! it makes my hair so soft and detangled!

3. I hate the shampoos love the conditioners. Especially Hello Hydration, Break's Over, and Color Me Happy. I use the shampoos as body was.

4. see above lol

5. coarse means hard. You can tell if ur hair is coarse if u can touch it and it makes a krinkly sound lol a lot of AA ppl have coarse hair. I personally have mediumly coarse hair VERY tightly curled.

What do you think about Herbalessences shampoo's and conditioner's?

should work OK for all ethnic groups, hair is hair , they smell good, no, I do not use this product, the opposite of fine

How to keep my perm(chemically straight) hair healthy?

I'm african american and my hair is permed(chemically straighted) it has been for a while and I know if I don't take care of it will fall out and I love my hair now.I was wondering does any one have any tips on how I can my hair heathly and in great shop.thax in advance

How to keep my perm(chemically straight) hair healthy?

apply a leave in conditioner to your hair sometimes because it will strengthen it. also, pantene has a really nice lotion for hair that i use and it helps mine. i have a perm too and my hair is down my back. it's really good for your hair. look for it in a brown bottle.

How to keep my perm(chemically straight) hair healthy?

Panteen, or however the hell you spell it lol lazy day, is HORRIBLE for your hair if processed... yes even the so called "for women of color" version. I suggest Optimum brand products. I too have my hair relaxed (that is what we do to our hair, you perm it if you want it curly...) but my hair grade is so fine that i cannot leave it in for too long. My hair is wavy and curly but THICK, so i go from relaxed to straight depending on the season.

I recommend a GOOD beautician. Be VERY careful of who you allow to touch your hair... I'm so cautious... dont be afraid to tell them what you dont like, dont want and are concerned about. Afterall it is your hair and you will be the one looking a hot wreck if they mess it up.

So yeah stay away from that pantine*so and try Optimum. My sister does my hair and she uses something called Alter Ego to condition my hair and treat my scalp to prevent any problems that might arise from it being relaxed. Alter Ego is wonderfull!! I swear by it.

Can white guys use Dr. Miracles products???

My son is a white 21 year old male. He has always had thick, very coarse curly hair. Now his hair is getting somewhat thinner. And I've especially started noticing this around his front hair line. Yes, it could be genetic, because my dad lost his hair at an early age. In my husband's family, the men have thick, full hair well into their old age. (But I've heard baldness is passed down through the mother's side). It could also be stress - - - he is in college and holding down a job, etc.

My question is, would the Dr. Miracle's Nape %26amp; Temple Grow products work on my son or is it only for African-American hair problems (mostly for women)? Does anyone know of any men who have had success with these products?

Can white guys use Dr. Miracles products???

Dr. Miracles is for everyone. You actually do not even need Dr. Miracles to help the hair grow back. His "secret" tingly ingredient are just oils from the mint family that make the scalp tingle when applied. Peppermint, Rosemary, and Tea Tree oil are all from the mint family and stimulate hair growth. Have your son massage these oils into the areas a few nights a week and thats it. Just leave the hair alone and let it do its thing.

Be sure he is also taking a mutli-vitamin containing biotin which makes hair thicker.

Organic Root Stimulator has a line of scalp scrubs and feritilizers aimed at this particular problem. The line is geared towards afro women but your son as has natural, curly, and coarse hair so this should work just the same.

Can white guys use Dr. Miracles products???

no go to a local dolar general and get a mens perm

Can white guys use Dr. Miracles products???

I uses it it flatens your hairy very very good but yea anyone can really use it doesnt matter. But if you would like it to get thicker cut it off.

Can white guys use Dr. Miracles products???

Any one can use those. I am not African American but majority of the hair products that I use are for African Americans and they still work great on me.

Can white guys use Dr. Miracles products???

i am a hairdresser in Australia and I'm not familiar with that product but i can highly recommend Nioxin if you look it up at www.nioxin.com we use it in the salon and our clients that need it use it at home it is a 3 stage process and all stages need to be used for it to work but it has to be a problem for your son for anything to work well

Can white guys use Dr. Miracles products???

He can use the product. It just happens to be targeted towards African Americas. I heard though that Dr. Miracles is a waste of your money and it really doesn't work. But everyone has different experiences to hair products.

Which is better? Olive oil? or this product?

Okay I love my hair, but it seems like everything in "african american" hair care products contain "pertolum" and "mineral oil"

( even Pantene Pro-V, women of color hair care system contains Petrolem and Mineral oil) Which I heard these ingredients are bad for "our" type of hair...the media doesnt understand our hair care...anyways I'm not rich but I do want to put some kind of oil in my hair, any suggestions?

Which is better? Olive oil? or this product?

olive oil is the best u could ever get

Which is better? Olive oil? or this product?

wekll thank you everyone who gave me good advice and screw the peopel who took my hair as a joke. I love my hair!!!! dont hate appriciate Report It

Which is better? Olive oil? or this product?

use natural gas

works great!

Which is better? Olive oil? or this product?

If your hair dosen't product oil then you need these products if it does then you are just hurting your hair. Try simple washing and rinsing and use some normal shampoo.

Which is better? Olive oil? or this product?

i use body oil like nuetrogena. my sister uses vaseline.

Which is better? Olive oil? or this product?

petroleum is just Vaseline..fine for your hair.

Get a good leave in conditioner for dry hair.

Olive oil may make it smell, I don't even like coconut oil because of the smell.

Just make sure there is no alcohol in anything. That dries out your hair.

Which is better? Olive oil? or this product?

I use olive oil and almond oil. I also use coconut oil. They are natural ingredients. You may find them at any Indian or Pakistani store. You may also find them in small stores such as Aldi or Food Basics

They are also avaie in Farmer Jack and Kroger.

All of these stores can be found in the US which im assuming is where you live.

But even if you dont they are very common evrywhere around the world

They usually work on all hair types and do not do any damage to most peoples hair

Which is better? Olive oil? or this product?

use corn oil....works great...makes it shinny, oily and when ur hungry you can just take a piece of bread and rub it against ur head and eat it.

A couple hair questions, Please answer!?

Soooo I was wondering if you can tell if the little hairs that stick up on your head are hairs that have broken off or if they are hairs that are growing in??? and also I have been reading about people using doo grow ... is that a product that african americans use in their hair??? wouldnt it make anyone elses hair really greasy and nasty???? and does it work?

A couple hair questions, Please answer!?

Doo Grow is a product used by African Americans to help speed the growth of thier hair. If you are not black I recommend that you do not use it becasue it is greasy and it will weigh your hair down. I have not used it myself but I have a cousin who swears by it!!! As far as your fly aways it can be hair that is broken off or hair growing but either way you'll never really know, just use a little bit of Frizz Ease or spray a little hair spray on a comb and lay them down

A couple hair questions, Please answer!?

I work at Toni %26amp; Guy and I say dont use any product your notso familair with hopethis helps love hairbabe101

A couple hair questions, Please answer!?

ok well i have those hairs on my head 2 but i think that it might be growing in also but mine have been there all my life and yes i think that the gel thing or whatever it is would make your hair greasey

A couple hair questions, Please answer!?

umm i would say that

A couple hair questions, Please answer!?

I advise you not to use anything of African American use , because those hairs might come to life and perform a ritual ; you don't know what your getting yourself into?! Just go to your local retailer and purchase a bottle of Neet , that take of it!

A couple hair questions, Please answer!?

THERE IS NOT A TOPICAL PRODUCT THAT CAN BE APPLIED TO HAIR TO MAKE IT GROW. WHETHER ONE USES DO GROW OR NOT THE HAIR WILL GROW I-2 INCHES PER MONTH DEPENDING ON IF YOU HAVE FLAT CELL OR ROUND CELLS.

A couple hair questions, Please answer!?

Hair does not grow 1-2 inches per month as Jewelry Diva stated. I don't care how long she has been doing hair. Your hair grows 1/4 of an inch per month. I also have hairs that stick up on my head and I don't know if they are new hairs of broken hairs. I'm hoping they are new growth.

A couple hair questions, Please answer!?

They sound like broken off pieces of hair. If you use hair tyes, make sure they don't have the metal piece in them. My daughter switched and now it's gotten better.

I need help with my hair!!! Hair styles, tips, etc.?

I'm African-American, but my hair's kind of weird because my mom's native american and my dad's African. So I'm stuck with this weird medley of straight and not-so-straight hair. Relaxers are not for me, I tried them twice and was rewarded with chemical burn and broken hair. So, please someone give me some advice.

I need help with my hair!!! Hair styles, tips, etc.?

Hair looks best, an is easiest to style, if you go with a texture and colour that's similar to its natural state. Go to a hairdresser that specialises in curly or african american hair, and get them to give it a good cut that accentuates its natural beauty. If you don't want to do that, curlers - yes, curlers - can be good for giving in-between hair a more defined style, and as you can wind them in then sleep on them or leave them to dry in the evening, they don't damage your hair and take little effort. Try also boosting colour wth a dark brown or black non-permanent gloss too, this will make it look more shiny and subtly enhance it. And yes, definitely keep it in great condition!

I need help with my hair!!! Hair styles, tips, etc.?

try extentions or wigs

I need help with my hair!!! Hair styles, tips, etc.?

i have hair probally very similar to you but i'v found alot of "black" products still can work for us.

try something called doo gro -sounds bad but really works

u can also try washing your hair with an egg every now and again to strenthen it. and if you decide to straighten you hair alot more always curl the ends so it doesn't bush out at the ends

pink lotion-works great

for you im just going to say KEEP IT MOUSTURIZZZZZED!!

Is my shampoo working?

I have thick, african american hair. And a few months ago i took out my braids to let my hair grow but my hair was nappy and really curly so I put a relaxer in it and then i went to the store and I saw the "Pantene Natural %26amp; Relaxed Shampoo/Conditioner" for "woman of color" so ive been using that but I dont know if its helping my hair or not. I mean i dont think my hair has grown and it breaks alot. but i really dont know what healthy hair looks or feels like so is my shampoo the right kind. and what does healthy hair look and feel like.

Also, if this shampoo is bad then what should i get and use for my hair to grow faster and my breakage.

P.S: Ive recently started using "Garnier Fructis Leave-in Conditioner" and im not sure if thats working either

SO PLEASE HELP!

thannkxs

-BBYCKES :D

Is my shampoo working?

Pantene Natural %26amp; Relaxed Shampoo/Conditioner has the honor of being on many people list of products they will never buy again

http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/forum_po...

and on the list of worse products

http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/forum_po...

Is my shampoo working?

By healthy hair I think you mean white people hair. Your shampoo is fine. Your parents gave you the do.

Is my shampoo working?

The Pantene Natural %26amp; Relaxed is a joke. Don't use because it contains petrolelatum, mineral oil or lanolin. Those are cheap fillers that manufacturers put into our products (especially ethnic hair care products). These ingredients will plug the pore and suffocate the hair follicle causing breakage.

Garnier Fructis is great product to use along with Suave, VO5, Nexxus, Creme of Nature, and Organic roots stimulator, motions, doo gro, Elasta QP. You can get the majority of these products at a Sally's Beauty Supply store or Walmart/Target.

Are you also using a moisturizer? Our hair definitely needs moisture or we will ave breakage. I use S-Curl moisturizer and recently just switched to Elasta QP and I'm having great results. To seal in moisture try using an oil like olive, coconut, castor, or jojoba oil. These are excellent for the hair!

Protein for the hair is also important, especially after getting a relaxer. When you get a relaxer, you are altering the protein structures in your hair so you hair is more prone to break because the structure is not strong. I use Nexxus repairology leave in conditioner (very light and not greasy) maybe 2-5 times a week.

I could go on and explain more but this web forum I found could help you out. It's by these black ladies who have dedicated their time and energy with supply great information regarding our hair. If I were you I would first read the hair breakage thread and read the newbies 101 section. It's long but very informational. Afterwards go to the homepage again and click on the hair growth thread and read the newbies 101 section there. They also have threads about shampoo/conditions/products, etc. Take care! http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

I don't know much about these people, but I have seen them a couple of times on movies and TV. Aren't all of them African American? So, how come they don't have the african type of hair? They all have regular hair like most people in this world. I am interested to know. Please don't think I am racist or anything. I just want to know.

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

Because it is weave (sewn in fake hair) sorta like extensions and they get perms witch for black people makes the hair straight and more manageable. And j-lo is not black she is Latina.

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

yeah but also everyone has different hair types so you never know if it it a weave or not just dont sterotype us, not all black people wear weaves, its natural for some of us Report It

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

it's called some one else is doing there hair every day

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

They all get extensions.

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

Hair weave and they wear wigs and perms

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

Four non-white women trying to look white? Yeah, I wonder why too.

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

J LO IS HISPANIC SHE IS FROM BRONCO CUZ THEY HAVE MAKE UP AND HAIR PEEPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... IK SOME AFRICAN AMERICAN PEEPS WITH REG HAIR

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

J.Lo is Latin, but yes the other 3 are black. I don't know if they have naturally straight hair, but if they don't, then they use styling products to achieve straight hair. plus, they pay their hair stylists big bucks.

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

.

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

Beyonce, Ashanti, and Queen Latifah most likely have weaves or extensions.

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

weave my friend, they use expensive weave,

its actually called netting weave

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

J.Lo is not black, she is puerto rican. Ashanti is bi-racial. Queen Latifah wears extensions and hair pieces. Beyonce' wears hair pieces, front laced wigs,

How come Beyonce, J.Lo, Ashanti and Queen Latifah have regular hair?

Not every black person has the exact same type of hair. Yes, some women wear weaves, but many black women have healthy hair that is 100% their own.

Some African American women have naturally straight hair, while others will either relax their hair (which does the opposite of a perm) or use heat to and other methods to wear their hair in straight styles.

Yes, you may have seen many black women with especially curly hair, but just as white women have varying types of hair and different methods to achieve certain styles, black woman do as well.

Straightening our hair gives us the chance to wear a larger array of styles, but be aware that not every black woman is born with the exact same type of hair, just as is true of woman of other races. And no, not every black woman you see with long, straight hair is wearing a weave nor does it mean she must be mixed - yes there are some that fall into that category, but race alone does not dictate what one can do with their hair.

I hope this helps you. :)

Is there a way that I can naturally lighten my hair?

I read in a magazine that you could wash your hair and put Chamomille Tea in your hair, and sit out in the sun for a few hours, but I'm an African American with kinky hair, and my hair would get even more kinky (or maybe even sticky) if I just washed my hair and let it air dry... So, help?

Is there a way that I can naturally lighten my hair?

sunlight

Is there a way that I can naturally lighten my hair?

the sun naturally lightens ur hair

Is there a way that I can naturally lighten my hair?

Yeah go swimming lots.. My hair was from black to brown because of the chlorine water and the sun combined. It damages your hair though so i don't recommend it.

Is there a way that I can naturally lighten my hair?

hmm, maybe try putting lemon juice in your hair then going in the sun for a while, I would probably reapply it about every hour :)

hope it works

Is there a way that I can naturally lighten my hair?

follow the direction in the magazine and then wash your hair and set it like you normally would. if your hair is black, don't think you will notice any change in the color.

Is there a way that I can naturally lighten my hair?

mix lemon juice with baking soda and apply on the hair. AVOID SCALP. keep it for 1 hour or more. dont go in sun.

What is the best black haircare for little girls..?

Ok my wife and i are torn. We are both black but still are not sure about dealing with our daughters hair. I have no sisters and my mom is Puerto rican with straight hair and can't advise. My mother in law is half native american with wavy hair. My wife's hiar is i guess what you would cal typical african american hair. My dauther has curls almost shirley temple like especailly when wet. Do we start oiling or using oil mositureizer now on her hair she is 13 months. Or do we keep just washing it and using the detangler to comb it.

What is the best black haircare for little girls..?

Use a detangling spray and conditioner. make sure to leave the conditioner on for at least 30 minutes then wash. I have the same problem, watch out when she get old her hair is going to get BIG. lol. The best way to do that is when she get older you can start getting foam curlers and curl her hair at nice. The bigger the better. Using mouse is an easy way to keep hair straight without freezing it.

Good luck! Take her to a black stylist whens he gets older, they can help.

What is the best black haircare for little girls..?

Definitely check out Carol's Daughter. www.carolsdaughter.com. Her products are absolutely the best! (She's endorsed by Mary J and Jada Pinkett Smith) Nuff' said =0)

What is the best black haircare for little girls..?

Wouldn't "No Tears" or something for infants be good?

I heard virgin coconut oil is meant to be very good.

What is the best black haircare for little girls..?

Afro-sheen.

Works like a charm. Esp if you can really soak it in and leave it on the little tykes nappies...

What is the best black haircare for little girls..?

You can stick with your current routine until her hair starts to change (longer, thicker, harder to handle).

At that point I would add a little more steps to your current routine:

After washing, use a leave in conditioner. We use the Generic brand of the Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner.

When dry, you could try Mizani's Rose H2O Conditioning Hairdress. I use it for my daughter and I am very pleased with it. Usually available at salons only...you can get it from Regis.

I've also tried Baby Love and Soft Sheen, but I love the Mizani the best!

What is the best black haircare for little girls..?

As a African American teenage it is best to use products such as Oil moisturizer by pink luster and keep on washing and detanglering it and combing it .Try you best to keep her natural hair type. Avoid perms and do not cut her hair .You might want to try braids it cute and long lasting for a child. If you do try braid be gently on her edges.

What is the best black haircare for little girls..?

okay heres what i reccomend:

How 2 get longer hair?

i'm african american and my hair doesn't grow very long. its breaks easily too. anyone have any ideas to get longer hair?

How 2 get longer hair?

Mush 8 strawberrys and mix with 1 tablespoon of mayonaise. Massage onto hair. Put shower cap over it, and then a warm towel, leave on for 1/2 hour. Then wash out.

~Gives healthy looking hair, shininess, and will give it a rich gloss~

Apply oils to your hair (Olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil.) Put a shower cap and leave on over night. When its morning, Shampoo and condition out.

~ Makes hair finer, which makes it smoother, softer, and silkier.~

Use a Natural Boar Bristle Brush. This brush takes the natural oils from your hair, and smoothes it out to your hair.

~Gives the hair a shiny and softer look and feel~

Rinse hair w/ cold water instead of warm.

~ Closes the cuticle of your hair and gives instant shine~

Deep condition your hair once a week (I like Garnier Fructis 3 min. conditioner)

~Hydrates dry hair, and gives it a healthy look.~

Lightly beat 2 eggs w/ a little bit of milk, massage into hair, and leave in for 5 min. Then shampoo and condition it out.

~ Gives softness and silkyness instantly!~

Conditioning after shampooing softens the cuticle of your hair.

~Making hair finer, for softer hair~

How 2 get longer hair?

First off,do have any chemicals or relaxers in your hair?If you have a straight perm in your hair, take it out and start off natural. If you want longer hair you could wear braids. Also, you could get a curly perm instead. It makes your hair grow really fast and its not as damaging.I have one and my hair grows long and healthy.Hope that helped=)

How 2 get longer hair?

try wearing a wig or hair extennsions

dont blame me if u dont like this answer. :)

How 2 get longer hair?

When you wash your hair, condition it real good by putting a lot of conditioner (i use motions or silk elements) and leave it in for like a hour to two hours. rinse it then go on with blowdrying/ press/ flat ironing etc. USE OIL EVERYDAY (try Proclaim Glossing Polish) TO KEEP MOISTURIZED AND WRAP IT EVERYNIGHT!!! your hair should be growing fast in no time =]

How 2 get longer hair?

Is you hair chemically relaxed? If it is, you may want to consider stopping the use of relaxers. Another option is to make sure that you are using moisturizing shampoos and conditioners. Also, try to limit the use of any kind of heat on your hair (i.e. curling iron, flat irons, etc.). Your diet may be the culprit also. Eat lots of fruits and veggies and be sure to drink lots of water which is very important. HTH.

Cornrows on women?

Does it matter if an african american woman has cornrows? Especially as long as she is dressed nice, and gets a professional looking style?

People are constantly calling them "trashy" or "ghetto"... but then again most of those people who say that do not have african american hair texture. It sometimes gets hard to handle especially if you are trying to escape a perm/ go natural.

I was thinking of getting cornrows so my hair won't be all over the place while I'm trying to grow my natural hair out and stop using perms.

ALSO: I am a teenager (16 years old) So do I even need to look professional??

Any opinions?

Cornrows on women?

I LOVE CORNROWS

Cornrows on women?

As long as they're done well and she carries herself well (not trashy like some of the women on BET who are commonly seen wearing them ) then no, it shouldn't matter.

P.S.

Even if you are sixteen, I don't condone you acting like any of these women.

Cornrows on women?

Cornrows and other African braiding techniques are very beautiful, and only bigots who reject anything that is not Euro centric would call them ghetto or trashy, at your age, you dont have to satisfy any career requirements about dress codes so enjoy your freedom to wear your hair anyway you like!

Cornrows on women?

It's ashame black women are supposed to imitate white hair in order to look professional. I say go for it. Also try singles and 2 strand twists. They look great!

Cornrows on women?

Its not ghetto or trashy to me, its sexy.

I really like when Black gils wear their natural hait too, kinky curly, you name it I love it!

Cornrows on women?

It's fine as long as it's kept up and looks nice. People who aren't us and who don't know our hair always have something to say, just shut them out.

NOT THIS: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/81/243000...

LOL, yeah I know .02.

ONE MORE THING DO NOT PUT BLUE, PINK or YELLOW Braids in your hair if it's for work, while colorful, NOT a good look for the job ok! I love my ppl, LOL

LIKE THIS , DO NOT DO THIS!

http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h...

VICKY BEFORE YOU TRY AND PUT DOWN THE HAIRSTYLE, learn to spell it correctly: CORNROWS

Cornrows on women?

Personally I always thought it looked pretty when a girl had long hair done like that in a ton of skinny little braids and all pulled up in a ponytail. Something my own hair texture, being white and all, would never allow without coming apart within a day. : )

Cornrows on women?

nah, no reason at all to look professional.

PsyMaj - thanks, that was a very good observation. There are braids and then there ghetto braids.

Cornrows on women?

I get cornrows all the time, and i look good.

Cornrows on women?

I personaly dont like how conrows look..on anybody...sometimes it seems ghetto especially when ppl have designs in them and stuff....but I've got really curly/ wavy hair that groes on its own so I cant really dis-agree with you about the whole "growing hair natural thing"

Cornrows on women?

I think cornrows are gorgeous. You can look professional with them.

We shouldn't have to burn out our hair to fit the white American standard of beauty.

Congrats on going natural.

Cornrows on women?

I think corn rolls are cute however, if you are trying to be professional it does not look right. Unfortuntely, I agree that it does look ghetto.

Cornrows on women?

Cornrows are nasty. White women with cornrows is even nastier, but they're still a nasty hairstyle, on anyone.

Not attractive.

Cornrows on women?

i don't care. I don't like them anyway. its just my opinion. I've never worn cornrolls(and never wanted to), but they are sometimes too tight for your hair. which can damage it. (thats what i heard)

I only perm my hair once a year. My hair is pretty good, lol. (i don't care for perms, lol)

my hair is now natural. (i've kept it natural for this whole summer) and i haven't had any trouble, but i prefer my hair straighten. it looks longer and better. (my hair is to my mid back when straighten)

Cornrows on women?

very unattractive.

Cornrows on women?

Corn Rows are puts on a man by womans case closed

thug word

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

Everytime I go to the salon and get highlights my hair starts to break. I'm African-American. Is my hair not strong enough for highlights? It's not think but its not thin. It's medium texture but should I just stop getting highlights and wear my natural color?

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

It is because chemicals are TORTURE on your hair.

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

chlorine kills hair.... (sing song voice, dont ask)

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

Because you are frying your hair with chemicals

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

because the chemicals are killing your hair...

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

It's because the chemicals in bleach drain all the health from your hair and damages it.

Looks good, though.

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

The dye probably contains bleach, which ruins your hair. Just wear your natural color, it will be so much nicer and better for your hair.

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

All of those chemicals they use to dye your hair completely dry your hair out, which is why it breaks easily, not sure if it is worsened because of your race or not and the fact your hair has a different texture than caucasians but it's still because it dries it out, maybe if you could some deep conditioners and left them in for longer periods of time it would help.. worth a shot, maybe you could ask your stylist. Good luck!

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

Most anything done at a salon tends to dry your hair so it sounds like that's why it is splitting.

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

Is your hair stylist giving you deep conditioning treatments after bleaching? This can help with the strength of the hair. Also, do not comb or brush your hair when its wet. This will cause it to break. Also make sure youre getting a trim every time you get it bleached. You need all those split ends off!

I bleach my hair every 6 weeks and yes, it breaks off... its bleach! Its not good for your hair! Im thinking of going back to natural too....

Its really a question you have to answer yourself. How much do you like the color you get when bleaching? Is it worth losing some hair? It was worth it for me for years but now that I want long, thick hair I have to stop bleaching it :(

Why does my hair break when I get highlights?

I get my hair highlighted all the time but my beautician tells me when you get highlight you can't relax or perm your hair within two weeks and you can't put alot of heat on the hair for the highlights weaken the hair and not as strong as no highlighted hair

Long term hair damage control?? help?

I used to hair long hair when i was a kid. When i transferred to a prodomonently white school in 3rd grade, i was occasionally made fun of when my mom would put my hair in certain hair styles.( I'm African american by the way) She would do cute ponytails with barrettes in my hair. But sometimes she would try something new. Being a kid, you had to let your mom do your hair because you were not old enough to decide for yourself. I was made fun of at some of my hair styles..i must admit i didnt like a few myself. But growing up i started being able to decide on how i wanted my hair to be done. Doin this caused my hair major damage that didnt become noticable until around my 7th grade year. My hair was getting shorter and shorter breaking off. Any advice or hair tips for getting my hair longer and healthier but still look cute? Can this be done before school starts? I'm 15 and becoming a sophmore.

Long term hair damage control?? help?

You have to trim all of the damage out

Use a moisturizing shampoo condtioner and leave in creme. I reccomened Neutrogena Triple Moisture, shampoo conditioner and deep recovery hair mask

http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.a...

Neutrogena.com

Brush your hair before shampooing and conditioner so your hair won't be tangeled.

Don't wash your hair everyday try 3 times a week

Avoid combing hair while wet, use a wide tooth comb.

Deep condition twice a week

Trim your hair tips every 4-6 weeks.

While shampooing massage your scalp with your fingertips slowly, it's not necessary to shampoo the ends, then rinse with warm water.

When using a conditioner leave on for about 1-3 minutes so you can get great results then comb hair with wide tooth comb then rinse with very cold water to have shiny hair

If you use gel/hairspray/moose stop using them. They damage and dry up your hair.

If you use heat appliaces (blowdryers, curling irons, hair straightener) use a heat protecter spray so it'll protect your hair from heat.

If your in the sun alot buy a cap or a hoodie to protect your hair from the sun, heat damages and drys out your hair.

Buy a leave-in-conditioner/leave-in conditioner/creme to moisturize your hair all day long and don't rinse.

After your out of the shower set your blowdryer on cool setting and blowdryer your hair for 2 minutes, this will help seal the hair cuticles for a smooth shiny surface.

If you dye your hair do it atleast once a year, hair dye has terrible chemicals that kill your hair.

Long term hair damage control?? help?

If you notice any split ends, I would start off by cutting as much of them off as you can. Split ends can often split further up the hair shaft causing more damage as the hair grows longer. After that start using an olive oil treatment, it works very well as a moisturizer for the hair. Obviously, it'll make it oily but it helps it in the long run. I'd use it at least once a week just to be safe. You'll have to be patient as your hair grows but it will be worth it to cut off the damage so that when it does get long, it will be beautiful!

Long term hair damage control?? help?

hey

it sounds like you might have split ends. you can buy special shampoos to help strengthen the hairs. the downside about split ends is that you do need to get the ends trimmed frequently,. depending on how fast your hair grows. it could be as often as every three weeks, or once every other month. be careful if you decide to dye your hair or go swimming, as the chlorine in a pool can damage your hair. good luck fixing the problem, and good luck in 10th grade! I just finished my sophomore year, and it was so much fun! i think you will enjoy it. take every opportunity that comes your way, because you will regret it if you dont.

hope i helped! =]

Long term hair damage control?? help?

you need to condition your hair . use a hot oil treatment which is not expensive at a dollar store is good.do as it says and also you need a good conditioner for dry damaged hair.

and shampoo . it will take at least two weeks for your hair to become healthier. your hair is brittle , that is why it is breaking off. use a comb never a brush.brushing breaks the hair . your hair can grow quicker taking a hair supplement, vitamin ....

Don't get discouraged it all takes time..

Long term hair damage control?? help?

Dont go out and buy anything expensive.

First: Purchase a mild Shampoo (To Clarify hair, I will explain why)

Second: TRIM your hair ends (May 1 1/2 to 2 inches)

Third: Here's the magic part: Mix olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, avocado oil and a "little" honey, (honey u will have to heat so it can blend). Either leave on ALL day or all night (if all nite, DONT use honey)

Repeat this 3-4 times a week, your hair will grow like a weed %26amp; remove all frizz I promise,..... and it will be super shiny!!!!

The clairifying shampoo will help take the oil off your hair when u shower

You can find olive oil anywere, but the other oils you will have to buy at a local organics store, wholes foods or BJ's health corner.

How much would the BioIonic hair straightening treatment cost?

I have heard that the BioIonic straightening treatment is the most advanced and healthiest straightening treatment yet. I have never heard anything bad about it so I would definitly like to try it (in alternative to relaxing, which last time I tried it it didn't even work and it KILLED my hair). But I heard it was somewhat expensive. So, I was wondering if anyone from Canada could give me an estimate. My hair reaches to just below my shoulders and I am half African-American so my hair is quite curly and tough to deal with.

Thankyou :)

--Aisha (Esha)

How much would the BioIonic hair straightening treatment cost?

here in virginia it runs $300-400.

you need to find someone that does this service and tell them exactly what you have had on your hair before before getting into it and exactly when you did it.

a lot of people will come in and say that they don't have any of their previous relaxer on their hair anymore because their hair is curly again. then when they get another chemical put on it that is not compatible with the last one they had their hair breaks off where the 2 overlapped. this is very important! not all relaxers can be used over top of others.

How much would the BioIonic hair straightening treatment cost?

Free of Cost :)

How much would the BioIonic hair straightening treatment cost?

Last time i checked at this korean hair salon it was 200$ - 400$

What could have caused hair breakeage?

To African American women: My daughter hair suddenly got shorter cant figure out why? The beautican says it thinning. We have always blown dryed her hair and that never affected it. We keep it mosturized. What can I do to solve this problem. I need solutions please. we cant figure out what could have cause this. Relaxer maybe? although she has gotten them in the past and no problem.

What could have caused hair breakeage?

It could be that the relaxer was overlapped over already relaxed strands...

do not go to a stylist that knows nothing about hair care, that is a disaster waiting to happen.

just lay off of the blow drying for awhile and do deep conditioning treatments, oil her hair, no petroleum or mineral oil products, they make hair issues worse.

What could have caused hair breakeage?

The relaxer could have overlapped where it was previously relaxed, causing breakage. Or if she wears her hair up a lot, the tension could cause it to break.

What could have caused hair breakeage?

I may be way off base here, but it sounds like what ever is wrong with your daughters hair is the stylists fault and the stylist doesn't want to admit it so she will blame it on other things. She may have over done it with a relaxer, such as over lapped it. Was a pressing comb used on her hair, because hair that is relaxed should NEVER have a pressing comb usd on it. That will really break and damage the hair. It will also get thinner. Is your daughters hair actually falling out or is it breaking off? If it is falling out, take her to a dermatologist ASAP to get to the root of the problem.

Is Seventeen Mag a good magazine(Not Racial)?

Ok you guys, I'm African American and 17 and alot of my friends only read Black Hair Magazines(African American Hair Styles). And me, I read Black Hair Mags and Seventeen Mag because I like the different articles and clothing well, pretty much everything lol. But my "So Called" friends believe I'm trying to be white.

That's not the case. I have lots of "True Friends" of different races. Should I just dump those so called friends of mine or what? I don't have any online friends.

Thanks

Is Seventeen Mag a good magazine(Not Racial)?

Yep, dump 'em all and find people who aren't stupid.

Is Seventeen Mag a good magazine(Not Racial)?

I personally think your friends are ignorant because the think you're "trying to be white " when you certainly can not act like a certain race, when everyone acts different. So yeah, tell what I said, and if they still say racial comments like that, then drop them and get new friends.

Is Seventeen Mag a good magazine(Not Racial)?

so they're insulting you and saying you're trying to be white? Why WOULDN'T you dump them? I don't know why you're wasting your time asking this question in fthe interent, you know that they're not good friends.

Is Seventeen Mag a good magazine(Not Racial)?

dump em

17 mag is filled with clothes, makeup and boy problems and hot celebs

and cupons so u wont go broke. i love their articles on how to take cair of ur skin and hair and makeup by race. its so cool

Is Seventeen Mag a good magazine(Not Racial)?

Well I'm an 18 year old African American who LOVES seventeen mag (and CosmoGirl). I think it's pretty ignorant of your friends to say that you're trying to "be white". My friends use to say the same thing until I had them actually read the articles and look at the cute clothes ya know. I don't think they were trying to be mean by saying that. Some people are closed-minded about things that they're not use to. There's not a black woman/girl on the cover of Seventeen every month so they're probably not going to pick it up. Don't shut your friends out b/c they think that way though. Girl, just continue to read your Seventeen and tell them to mind they business ya kno.

Happy reading hun.

Is Seventeen Mag a good magazine(Not Racial)?

You sound like a really great person! If they're that against seventeen then tell them that u like because ( what u said in the Q) and if that doesn't work then hang out with ur true friends.

Is Seventeen Mag a good magazine(Not Racial)?

tell them calmly that you like the clothing and stories in seventeen better than the ones in Black Hair Mag. They might just be teasing, so tell them to stop (politly with a calm voice). If they continue, start by siting at different table at lunch.

Mouse? I'm confused about it?

Okay i have african american hair (im almost 13) and I've noticed its really thin and well "flat" when i pull it back into a ponytail it looks really well flat and i donno.

So i bought some mouse it was really cheap and it says "ideal for relaxed hair" got that because my mom relaxes my hair a lot. Well once my hair has a relaxer on it, and lets say the hair is dry. Do i get my hair wet then put the mouse on it? Or put the mouse in it without getting it wet???

And lets say i were to get a regular mouse, that wasnt for relaxed hair. Do ihave to get my hair wet before applying it?

Or can it go on dry hair??

Mouse? I'm confused about it?

Ok, you need a moisturizing mousse. African American hair is naturally dry, so you need one with lots of moisture. The best one for dry, and flat hair, is the moisturizing mousse by Biolage. To apply mousse, make sure your hair is wet, then blow dry. Mousse in dry hair will make your hair crunchy and will flake off. Mousse really does need to be blow dried to get the best results.

Mouse? I'm confused about it?

mousse usually goes on wet hair. wet ur hair, thn put the mousse in!

Mouse? I'm confused about it?

when i put it on i wet my hair first

Mouse? I'm confused about it?

Relaxer on dyed hair?

i'm african american and my hair has been breaking (not as much lately)... the front is gone (theres an inch left if i stretch it out) so i cant put out my bangs without looking like a total freak. the middle is fine and the back is getting better. (my hair goes down to the middle or end of my neck) i dyed it last friday and i stopped straightening it, but i can't manage it at all. should i get a relaxer tomorrow? homecoming is also coming up!! thanks

Relaxer on dyed hair?

Stop relaxing it hun-- do some deep conditioning at least once a week. See your stylist and she'll help you out.

Relaxer on dyed hair?

No. Try a protein treatment. The relaxers are the reason your hair is breaking.

Relaxer on dyed hair?

I had a similar problem and I went to a hairdresser, since then my hair has been healthy and growing nicely. She told me that part of the problem was that certain dyes don't work well with relaxers and can cause hair breakage. Also, if you don't keep your hair well moisturized, then the hair becomes britlle and breaks very easily.

I would suggest going to a hairdresser who's main clientel are african americans, and ask the for advice, because even if we're both african america, your problem may be caused by something else

Good luck!

Relaxer on dyed hair?

dyes break hair i lost my beautiful hair and i will never forget that for the first time in 2 years im now able to even bring it up and tie a pony. if you dye your hair too soon after relaxing or vice versa your hair is prone to damage so i wouldnt advise

Relaxer on dyed hair?

first things first, stop relaxing, coloring, bleaching, braiding. u need to go to ur salon and talk to a professional. they are probably going to put u on some kind of conditioning treatments.

in order to bring back health, sheen, and strength. and then they can suggest a protein treatment. also start taking some vitamin e pills. it will help with your hair shine, skin glow and nails

Relaxer on dyed hair?

go to this web site she will be able to help you she helped me!

www.ubhpublications.com good luck! don't worry because Cathy is good!

Relaxer on dyed hair?

Do not relax it. Get a nice sew in weave. It will give your hair a rest. Relaxing too much is probably why your hair fell out in the first place

Relaxer on dyed hair?

consult a reputable hairdresser.

Relaxer on dyed hair?

NO! do not use a relaxer.

Relaxer on dyed hair?

No no no. Your hair is damage. You probably did not follow the instructions when applying the relaxer, or you used the wrong strength. Your addiing too many chemicals to your hair, too soon. Sounds like your hair needs to be recondition.

I want a new look for school, any suggestions?

im half african american, my hair goes about down to my chest. Its not really styled. I want a new look for school, any suggestions? Well I dont want anything too drastic. I cant dye my hair.. But its naturally really dark and frizzes easily. Im going to get it straightened but it costs a lot of money and it doesnt last forever. Plus I live in maine so I have to travel 2 and a half hour to get to a hairstylist that does african american hair. I need help

please %26amp;%26amp; thank you

Dacey

I want a new look for school, any suggestions?

Wow - best of luck! You may want to just loosen the curls instead of straightening them all together that way you can use gel and your hair would just look somewhat curly - not too curly. For frizz - try coconut oil - put it on after you get out of the shower and while your hair is still damp (not soaking wet) it should help! :-)

I want a new look for school, any suggestions?

i have alot of african american friends and they dont strighten it you could put it in a high ponytail or braid it in a unique style and looking different for school could also inculde changing your clothes maybe spice up your wardrobe

I want a new look for school, any suggestions?

I THINK YOU SHOULD GET YOUR HAIR BRAIDED YOUR NATURAL HAIR I LIKE BRAIDS THEY ARE COOL.

I want a new look for school, any suggestions?

Awwwwweeee Dacy, I feel for you. I have a niece who is Mulatto. I put a perm on her hair and a lil oil while it was wet. Let it air dry by combing it down sorta in the style she wanted and then bumped it with the golden hots curling iron to give it body and shine. I think that her mom used to take her to JCPenney salon. You just need a relaxer. And get a haircut that matches your facial structure. Add some highlights what's the deal ?? After of course you have had the perm/relaxer for two to three weeks. Go to an African american salon if you are scared.

I want a new look for school, any suggestions?

I am totally jealous! My hair is about the same length and straight as a lasor! I would love it to curl up and be more "alive"! But noooooo, it just hangs there like roofing for my head! Perms do not last more than a couple of weeks and I can't sleep with curlers. I would love to trade hair with you!

I am American Indian....long straight dark hair....and 1 eyebrow....GRRRR!

I want a new look for school, any suggestions?

What about fringe just around front. You know where thye part your hair just in front of the ear and start between the chin and shoulder and cut in an angle from there down.If you only do that area it can be style in the front or brushed back and blended in with the rest of your hair.

Hope this helped...

I want a new look for school, any suggestions?

step cut hair look very nice, u can have 4 steps, they really give a cool look, and they suit all types of faces and complexions. best of luck! u need not straighten ur hair, just apply gel and comb them nicely. french knots look very nice on curly hair, or u can try ponies.

I want a new look for school, any suggestions?

Hey! I am a hair stylist and let me tell you girl, you can high-light your hair! You can lift it SHADES! If you want to add just 'shine' Paul Mitchell carries a line called PMShines, and it is wonderful!

I want a new look for school, any suggestions?

How can i help my hair grow faster ?

i am african american, and my hair can get nappy. when i get perms it does not take in very well. i use B%26amp;B supergro in my scalp 3 times a week, i have braids. it has vitamin E. how can my hair get thicker, and down to the bottom of my shoulder by next year or just longer. i cut my hair, it was longer, but uneven, so how can i make it grow when its still braided?

How can i help my hair grow faster ?

The secret formula for hair growth is to see that hair remains healthy. And these simple home remedies can be made at home and work out less expensive than other alternative forms of medicines. So try

http://solutionsforhairgrowth.blogspot.c... for more details.

How can i help my hair grow faster ?

Take multivitamins, and start using Nioxin shampoo, it really helps your hair to grow faster. My hair grows almost 2 inches a month, but it's a hassle sometimes.

How can i help my hair grow faster ?

There isn't a way to grow your hair faster. I'm sorry to break the news.

But you can take a lot of things that include Vitamin B in it. Take Vitamin B tablets, or Biotin.

Also, make sure you eat a lot of stuff with proteins in it. Animal-foods, such as eggs, beef, chicken, bacon, etc etc have a lot of proteins in it that would make your hair grow.

Basically, watch your diet, keep your hair in great shape, and sleep well.

Why is Yahoo editing and removing some of the answers? my answer to Jerry Falwell passing was remove

also the answer to question about hair of African Americans?

I can assure you none of the answers was offensive or inappropriate... well I am out of here... I thought this is a free exchange of ideas... my answer to Falwell passing was "the moral majority has proved it is neither" please let mr know if this offensive... as tothe question about African American hair which was "why is their hair not as lush as that of the caucasians and why is it nappy?" my answer was: "for the same same reason caucasian hair is stringy and straight and limp"

enjoy the ant farm, Yahoo is watching you...

Maybe, just maybe..:ITS THE WAY INWHICH YOU SAY IT...

I did not read your answer to falwell...

Don Imas got everybody trippin about saying words like

ho hos

Why is Yahoo editing and removing some of the answers? my answer to Jerry Falwell passing was removed?

Honestly, its not necessarily just Yahoo. Yahoo gets hundreds of requests a day...it just makes it easier if they just delete the questions that are identified as "abuse." Funny how it is...if someone doesn't agree with your statement...they just report you. I have had that done to me before, for comments that were not even remotely offensive. Just because.

Why is Yahoo editing and removing some of the answers? my answer to Jerry Falwell passing was removed?

Some idiot probably reported you. Don't know why. Yahoo doesn't even investigate, they just delete the question and send you the same generic notice.

Why is Yahoo editing and removing some of the answers? my answer to Jerry Falwell passing was removed?

Because it only takes a few liberal stalkers to complain about you and yahoo deletes your content. I thought libs were big freedom of speech supporters??? Is it it only when they speak??

Why is Yahoo editing and removing some of the answers? my answer to Jerry Falwell passing was removed?

It is a rare thing for Yahoo to err on the side of Christianity-you must have posted something to gross for even the perverts. I can assure that yahoo is not pro-Christian and not pro-Falwell.

Why is Yahoo editing and removing some of the answers? my answer to Jerry Falwell passing was removed?

Maybe they have chosen the mexicans answers

Why is Yahoo editing and removing some of the answers? my answer to Jerry Falwell passing was removed?

Because Yahoo is pathetic and does not value free speech.

Why is Yahoo editing and removing some of the answers? my answer to Jerry Falwell passing was removed?

Someone must have objected to what you said for whatever reason, so they reported you. It's not so much that Yahoo is doing it, as the other readers are. First of all, I don't know the question about Jerry Falwell's passing, so I can not tell you whether or not your answer was inappropriate or not.

Second, the question about African Americans hair being "nappy" should have been reported if your answer that simply stated that "Caucasian hair is stringy and straight and limp" was taken off. There is obviously a double standard in that situation. That should not have been deleted, but at the same time, you should not generalize. That is a good tip for anyone. Not ALL ____ are a certain way. Some, or most, but not all or the population of... Get it? I hate political correctness as much as the next person, but when you are dealing with public in any fashion, it is more respectable to do what is right. You can voice your opinion whether someone thinks it's right or wrong in a way that doesn't generalize and you will be good to go.

And I ask you this: why make a big deal out of it if you are really planning on leaving Yahoo!Answers? If you were really going to leave, what was the point of asking the question? I would think someone who wants to keep with the forums would ask a question like that. Am I wrong?

Whatever you decide- have a good one! :)
