Cornrows on women?

Does it matter if an african american woman has cornrows? Especially as long as she is dressed nice, and gets a professional looking style?

People are constantly calling them "trashy" or "ghetto"... but then again most of those people who say that do not have african american hair texture. It sometimes gets hard to handle especially if you are trying to escape a perm/ go natural.

I was thinking of getting cornrows so my hair won't be all over the place while I'm trying to grow my natural hair out and stop using perms.

ALSO: I am a teenager (16 years old) So do I even need to look professional??

As long as they're done well and she carries herself well (not trashy like some of the women on BET who are commonly seen wearing them ) then no, it shouldn't matter.

Cornrows and other African braiding techniques are very beautiful, and only bigots who reject anything that is not Euro centric would call them ghetto or trashy, at your age, you dont have to satisfy any career requirements about dress codes so enjoy your freedom to wear your hair anyway you like!

It's ashame black women are supposed to imitate white hair in order to look professional. I say go for it. Also try singles and 2 strand twists. They look great!

Personally I always thought it looked pretty when a girl had long hair done like that in a ton of skinny little braids and all pulled up in a ponytail. Something my own hair texture, being white and all, would never allow without coming apart within a day. : )

I personaly dont like how conrows look..on anybody...sometimes it seems ghetto especially when ppl have designs in them and stuff....but I've got really curly/ wavy hair that groes on its own so I cant really dis-agree with you about the whole "growing hair natural thing"

i don't care. I don't like them anyway. its just my opinion. I've never worn cornrolls(and never wanted to), but they are sometimes too tight for your hair. which can damage it. (thats what i heard)

I only perm my hair once a year. My hair is pretty good, lol. (i don't care for perms, lol)

my hair is now natural. (i've kept it natural for this whole summer) and i haven't had any trouble, but i prefer my hair straighten. it looks longer and better. (my hair is to my mid back when straighten)
