Im African American and My niece is alos African American and Puerto Rican her hair is the same way....Please don't ruin her hair with relaxers, she should either get a wet set which is rolled in rollers and set under the dryer, or a blow dry and flat iron which will leave her hair silky straight and if you get it done enough the hair will be used to being straight and it won't take much after that.... I hope she's at least 13 if not throw some TCB grease and water in her hair and ponytail it up!

I would't recommend messing with those kinds of chemicals at home. She could really fry her hair. My friend has the same kind of hair and she gets relaxers. They can be expensive but work wonders. It really isn't something she could do at home.

The one thing she could learn to do is blow drying it out. Take small sections and blow dry straight.

Sally's is good enough,,u have two choices..you can get some Dax pomade/wax(they have a red one and a green one) and hot comb it..or get affirm which is a very good relaxer for people with thick hair. any of these two will help. just remember with the hot comb, you'll have to keep doing every week or every two weeks.. the relaxer will last longer..

If you have coconuts in your town, buy a mature coconut meaning the brown one. Grate the meat, squeeze out the milk from the meat. Strain the milk, and scrub and massage the milk into her hair for 20-25 minutes. Next, take a hot towel and wrap her hair on it leaving it on for one hour. Tell her to wash her hair but don't use shampoo yet. Let the coconut oil be absorbed first by her hair. The next day she can use a mild shampoo already. Coconut milk has a peculiar smell but once you use shampoo and conditioner, the only effect you can feel is a smooth and shiny hair. Do that every week until you can see her hair is already smooth to comb even though it may still be frizzy. If there are coco creams in the store you can try them too.

You can get a perm for African-americans....it's called PCJ and its for little kids....that should work, i have alot of friends who are of a mixed race and they got perms. That should straighten her hair and make it a little more easier to maintain. But you might want to go to a beauty shop for her first perm. Or maybe you could try straightening it yourself with flat-irons. That should work if you dont want to try the perm yet.
