Does't this seem discriminatory and why is this?

Why is that employers are non accepting of African-American hair styles, but yet allow whites to wear mohawks, or dyed hair, or two toned hair.

Does't this seem discriminatory and why is this?

Yes, it's discrimination; it's a reflection of a certain mentality. Regardless, if this is the case (and you can prove it) you may be able to establish a lawsuit (perhaps even class action or federal?) against the offending company.

I've no idea why the world's like this, but yes, it is very discriminatory.

Does't this seem discriminatory and why is this?

if u r talking about braids and weaves its because these too cannot b washed often enough and they say that it stinks.

secondly, u cannot style and re-style braids and weaves. its like the same style for a month. they want people to differ daily with different outlooks.

Does't this seem discriminatory and why is this?

what kind of hair styles? i wear the single braids all the time n nobody cares.

Does't this seem discriminatory and why is this?

African Americans have a different texture than other races. Most stylist do not know how to do it, which should be a requirement in my opinion.

Does't this seem discriminatory and why is this?

lol I don't think "MEGMEG" comprehended what you were saying but good question I never thought about that .

Many people here are talking about hairstylists !!! I read your question and you were not asking why not all hair stylist do those hairstyles...if I understand correctly you were asking about "EMPLOYERS" any work enviroment !! another chic talked about braids stinking ...Does she know many white hair salons do extensions and braids ..lol people amuse me

Does't this seem discriminatory and why is this?

I guess it would depend on what type of work you do. If you work in a factory, it isn't a great idea to have long braids etc. hanging down. There are films on people getting scalped from machinery. If you are working in an area where there is any type of liquid, flames, or food....then it's better to have the hair either short or in a hair net. And of course, working with the public, it should be presentable no matter what your race is. But if you are being discriminated against, file a complaint. There is no excuse for discrimination. What is okay for one should be okay for all.

Does't this seem discriminatory and why is this?

Well, that is discriminatory. You've sparked my curiosity - I haven't seen any African-Americans with crazy hair! I have, however, seen the two-toned hair on a couple of anglo women and a mohawk on an anglo boy.

If you feel like it, elaborate - I'm curious what hairstyles are "unacceptable" and to what type of work?

My friend is African-American and she does have the same hairstyle for several days at a time - so what? I'd do that too if I didn't look like a crazy serengeti lion every morning.
