Im trying to grow out Dreadlocks. my hair pretty much standard african american hair so im wondering how i just go about it the right way so it looks nice.

Comin from somebody who has drealocks(ive had them for 9 months now)i suggest the twist and pin method...i have the same hair type as you...go to a salon and see how much they will charge you for it...and they will twist your hair and ull come back every couple of weeks and they'll wash them with the twists still in your hair and re twist them...also i recommend not to use wax cause its hard to wash out use locking gel theres a brand called Jamaican Mango and Lime gel it works...your hair will grow faster....you will see a difference in your hair in about 4-6 months...and after a year or two they will be fully locked....i say go for it cause i love my dreads and im about to dye mine. Dont listen to the people saying that u shouldnt wash them....that is the fastest way to ruin you dreads...

I would start by going to an African braid shop getting your hair twisted first and they can start dreading it from there.

I recomend u use stout and egg,apply evenly on ur hair and allow to dry to some extent. while the hair is damp, begin rub the hair with ur palm on one dircetion.THE FASTER U RE, THE BETTER THE RESULT TILL THE HAIR IS TOTALLY DRY. If u can afford a salon,Ithink its the best.

I would suggest that you don't do it. The only way to get rid of them is to cut them off. Plus, they're dirty. You have good hyigene I would hope... Imagine never washing your hair. Gross!!
