I need help with African American baby's dry scalp?

I'm not sure if I am caring for my 2 month old foster son閳ユ獨 hair/scalp correctly. He has a ton of beautiful hair! But his scalp is always very dry, it's not like cradle cap it's just dry and flakey. I know I'm not suppose to wash his hair as after as white babies, so I only wash it like twice a week with Johnson閳ユ獨 naturals baby shampoo. I have tried baby oil after his baths, different kinds of lotion and pink oil but nothing seems to be helping. What can I do?

I know someone just told you to wash his hair with dandruff shampoo, but please, please please don't do that!!!! I took care of two little girls who were African American (AA --in the interest of typing speed and space I'm abbreviating) and their mom left some great instructions (NO, she didn't split on her children, she was deployed to IRAQ in the first Gulf War).

She told me to do a "top%26amp;tail" everyday, but not to actually immerse them in water everyday. I would get a soft washcloth with a bowl of water and oatmeal soap (baby soaps are harsh ph -- not good for AA skin). I would wash their face first, then their feeties, then wash their diaper area. As for their heads, I only washed their hair once a week, but she told me to put a little olive oil on my finger tips and rub their scalps down really well BEFORE washing their hair. Then I used a really mild shampoo (I just kept buying the one she had which was Nexxus Humectant, or something like that) and focused on the HAIR, not scrubbing the scalp. You can also get some creme rinse to keep the curls nice and soft. Just remember to put it on the hair, not onto the scalp.

I always used a lot of lotion as well. Use something very natural that is paraben free like the stuff from Burts Bees.

just use vaseline and you can wash it once a day it's okay but i use vaseline on my 3mth old daughter's hair and it keeps it moisterized.

After you wash his hair, apply a small amount of vaseline to his scalp. Some say tea tree oil is also very effective. Good luck.

before shampooing us baby oil or olive oil every time you bath the boys hair it is not really called dry scalp it is called craddle cap in infants.

My son to had this problem and I sked my sons doctor for advice on what to do and he told me baby oil or olive oil witch ever one that I could afford to buy. Other wise he could write him a prescribtion for something to help get rid of it faster but he didn't like giving it to babies unless the craddle cap was really bad and unmanageable.

Try washing his hair everyday with selson blue shampoo. Yes you can wash his hair everyday he a baby like every other baby. Or ask the doctor what to use and he will recommend something for his scalp.
