this is mostly for people who have really curly hair or is african american ...but does relaxing your hair actually damage it ..or does it depend on how you relax it ???
cuz i really want to relax my hair so yaa ...and how long does it stay straight ..and if you do it all the time does it ruin your hair ???
Hair issues???
I am a master stylist. So listen. YES! Relaxing your hair is extemely damaging. The process requires a strong solution of sodium hydroxide/lye. It is caustic and not especially safe for any use. It is the base of soap, but needs to be mixed with an oil to contain it's alkalinity.
The process of straightening your hair with chemicals actually breaks the bonds that create the curl. This is a damaging solution.
There are chemicals on the market that work with a hot iron. These too are damaging. It all comes down to maintance. If you make the choice to straighten your hair, it is a commentment. You absolutely have to enrich your hair with the nutrients needed to keep it healthy.
If done properly, straightened hair should stay straight, provided you use products and tools that help the process. New growth will need to be maintained.
If you decide to do this, it is costly. I understand the issues with having curly hair. If you cannot maintain this process, invest in a good flat iron and products developed to control curl. As an african american, you must already known some of these products. They are used to inhibit moisture, soften and help maintain a smoother look.
I am not trying to discourage you from using a relaxer. I only want you to research what is best for you and within your ability to maintain your hair. It is important to know what is available and what you are willing to do to keep up with your choice.

Please see a professional stylist with a good reputation. If hair isn't properly taken care of (i.e. conditioners), yes, permed hair will fall out. Trust me and my weave!

relaxing your hair with a chemical relaxer is going to damage it. Sodium hydroxide is probably the worst for you hair. but there are other kinds to use. Relaxers should stay straight until it is cut out. You will need to get retouches, but they make sure to only get the new growth to avoid breakage.
Hair issues???
get a japanese straightner it lasts about 6 months and it makes your hair EXTREMELY straight!...it is the best straightner out there!
Hair issues???
nah, I've done it a bunch, you just have to wait for new growth before you do it again. its really bad if you do it too many times but once in a while is fine. Again, TOO MANY TIMES IS TERRIBLE FOR YOUR HAIR. Mine stayed visibly straight for about a month before it began to slowly poof up again. but they have better methods of relaxation out there then chemicle kinds so make sure you really want to do that before you do cause it'll look weird right after and you need to wait like an hour before its even remotely maintainable. speaking of my own experience of course.

If you are chemically relaxing it, it can dry your hair out, but you can buy a reconstructor that can help get it in better condition. A chemical relaxer works like a perm in reverse-as it grows, you'll have to have the roots done. But go to a professional to get it done! The chemicals are very harsh and you need to use a base cream to protect the scalp properly, or you will burn your scalp!

I have curly hair and my friend who is black also does, I used a relaxer and it damage my hair. My friend relaxed her hair all the time and ya, it's pretty damaged. She now has it in brads to give it a brake from the chemical damage. It's getting more healthier now, but take it form me and my friend, it's so not worth it. Just use brads. It's so much easier. Use the smaller ones. I know it can get a little expensive but it saves you time getting your hair done every day and it actually helps your hair from getting damaged form chemicals or straitening irons.

if your planning to relax your hair, better to choose a good brand of chemical to use...most often than not, cheaper chemicals can actually damage your hair...or probably you can go to a salon with a professional hairstylist so you can ask him/her how to do with your hair...

I highly suggest that you try the Brazilian keratin hair treatment. This product is fairly new and being used at most well known salons. This product is so efficient and works wonders. All hair stylists are recommending this product because it has low odor, low fumes, leaves hair sleek, makes hair shiny, makes hair silky, get rid of frizz, straightens wave or softens curls up to 3 months, hair stays very conditioned up to 6 months, and makes hair extremely manageable.
Ask your stylist for more information in reference to product!!
Good luck!!
